            JANUARY 1  New Year Shrine VisitAtaka Sumiyoshi Shrine is a very popular spot for locals to pray for a peaceful year ahead.

            FEBUARY 2  Plum BlossomsCatch the gorgeous plum blossoms at Tenmangu Shrine! Since ancient times, these beloved flowers have signalled the start of spring, and have their share of admirers.

            MARCH 3  Cherry BlossomsThe well known sakura begin flowering end of March, and reach full bloom in early April. Komatsu boasts several popular viewing spots, including Lake Kiba.

            APRIL 4  Moss phloxTenderly cultivated by the locals, an entire carpet of pink, violet and white shibazakura cover the hillside of Road Park Nakaumi-no-sato in late April.

            MAY 5  WisteriaVisit Rojo Park between the end of April till early May; the wisteria trellises are a sight to behold.   Japan Children’s Kabuki Festival in KomatsuWatch young children perform traditional Kabuki theater during this event! Every year, the local students put on a passionate rendition of Kanjincho, a famous Kabuki play set in Komatsu.   Otabi FestivalAdmire these gorgeous Hikiyama floats, and do stay to watch the children’s Kabuki performances, which has a history of over 250 years!

            JUNE 6  Japanese IrisThese irises bloom in mid-June at Lake Kiba Park.

            JULY 7  Kabuto FestivalThis festival commemorates the bravery of a famous Japanese warrior who lived around 900 years ago. In addition to the traditional wa-odori dances and song chants, visitors can also view the helmet that this warrior once wore.

            AUGUST 8  Osshobe FestivalThis traditional dance festival celebrates the opening of the 1300-year-old Awazu Onsen town. Spectators are welcome to join in this giant dance party.   Small WorldCelebrate international exchange in this event that features foods, music and dances from around the world!

            SEPTEMBER 9  JASDF Aviation FestivalThis festival opens the doors to the Komatsu Air Base. There are F-15 Jets and various aircraft on display, and performances from the very popular Blue Impulse Aerobatic Team.   Ataka FestivalDuring the day, the town residents parade their Mikoshi (portable shrine) and Hikifune float around the town.In the evening, young women perform a gorgeous dance dressed to the nines in a blood red kimono and wig!

            OCTOBER 10  Don Don FestivalA celebration of local industry and culture! This is a festival put on by locals for the locals. Expect multiple performance stages, tea ceremonies and streets entirely dedicated to selling the most delicious foods.

            NOVEMBER 11  Fall LeavesNatadera Temple is considered the best place within Ishikawa to admire these changing colors.   Cultural Festival Komatsu ReedsTraditional Japanese performances of Noh, Kabuki etc. as well as exhibits of Haiku poetry to satisfy the culture snob in us.

            DECEMBER 12  SnowSnow season begins in late December and lasts till February.
